Artist’s statement
In my paintings, I explore the gap between representation and responsibility. I seek to give a voice to the rivers, the lakes, the forests, the meadows, and their inhabitants. Shouldn’t they be allowed to represent essential causes related to their existence and wellbeing as much as we are? Line, color and words work together in my images to try to ignite in the viewer a desire to re-enchant the natural world with which we interact.
I use materials crafted from nature such as watercolor, mineral pigments, rag paper and gold leaf, because for me, these materials mirror the beauty, the mystery, the elusiveness of the worlds outside our own civilization, as well as the richness and fragility of our own world.
